Yankees trade Farnsworth!!!

Do you hear that? Thats the sounds of Yankee fans everywhere jumping for joy. The man who created the Walk-HR-per inning pitched stat is finally gone. Every time Farnsworth entered a game the whole stadium held their breath. NO MORE! Thank God.
BTW he was traded for Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. Pudge gives us a solid defensive catcher without having to sacrifice any offense. Molina has been awesome defensively this year, doing more than was expected of him, but now its time to see what Pudge can do at and behind the plate.

2008 MLS All Star Post Game thoughts.

If Kansas City defender Jimmy Conrad didn't flick a Dean Ashton shot off the side of his face into the back of the net my prediction would've been spot on. However the final score finished 3-2 in favor of the MLS team and did not fail to entertain a soldout BMO field in Toronto.

Blanco won the MVP and deservedly so. Creating the first goal with a beautiful back heel and scoring the second on a nifty cutback in the box. You can see the world class goal HERE.

Toronto fans are nuts. They unsurprisingly rained West Ham as they took cornerkicks with a myriad of streamers. What also didn't surprise me was that they also threw streamers the MLS players such as David Beckham as they took corners. What did surprise me, however, was that during a halftime interview of MLS commisioner Don Garber they proceeded to pelt streamers at the Don, Julie Foudy, and Rob Stone.

ESPN announcer Rob Stone picked up one of the streamers, threw it back, and hit a guy right in the face! He exclaimed after he threw it something like 'I nailed him right in the head! take that you Canadian piece of shit!' OK, not quite, but he did hit the guy.

In another halftime interview with former NBA MVP and proud Canadian Steve Nash, He revealed he was fronting the effort to add another Canadian MLS team in the city of Vancouver by 2011. Steve Nash is a classy guy and a classy athlete. I could not hope for someone better to help promote MLS growth and success. Vancouver has a solid USL team and all the neccessary foundations to be a successful MLS franchise and can hopefully emulate the success of Toronto FC.

Overall a very entertaining match. Chalk up another win for MLS against foreign competition. Here are the highlights:

ESPN: Sportcenters Titletown USA

If you haven't seen it yet, Sportscenter is doing a segment called Titletown USA. In 20 days Sportscenter visited 20 "towns" to decide which one deserves the distinctive "honor." Honestly, who cares? Thanks for wasting 5 minutes of my life every morning ESPN. Unless you come from one of the few lesser known towns that have prolific high school sports teams, why would you care. And of course, none of those small towns have any chance of winning. So thanks again for wasting my time. **HOWEVER** at least it gave Sportscenter viewers more chances to checkout Rachel Nichol's "reporting."

In case you're curious here are the 20 towns:
Green Bay, WI
Lawrence, KS
Pittsburgh, PA
Knoxville, TN
Chapel Hill, NC
Los Angeles, CA
Palo Alto, CA
Louisville, KY
Chicago, IL
Boston, MA
Gainesville, FL
New York, NY
Valdosta, GA
Detroit, MI
San Francisco, CA
Williamsport, PA
Ann Arbor, MI
Columbus, OH
Parkersburg, WV
Massillon, OH

The winner will be revealed during the 6PM Sportscenter on July 28th.

So Much for American Beer...

The great American Beer Budweiser. The best-selling beer in the United States. The symbol of American drinking. Clydesdale horses.

NO MORE.

Budweiser has been sold to Belgian company InBev.

I hope this infuriates American drinkers as much as it does me. All i know is that I’m not drinking that stuff anymore. I’m Proud to be an American and will always be proud to drink my American beer.

God Bless beer

and

God Bless America.

My Top 5 Favorite Actors

1. Christian Bale-Simply entertains and and never dissapoints (Watch American Psycho, then The Machinist, then Harsh Times)

2. Gary Oldman- he looks different in every movie hes ever been in. His characters are so unique you can barely recognize the actor

3. Rufus Sewell- brilliant villain, brilliant actor. watch Dark City (not a well known film. includes a cast of Keifer Sutherland, William Hurt, and Jennifer Connely)

4. Daniel Day Lewis- its impossible to see how one can act this well

5. Morgan Freeman- for lifetime achievement, never disappointing, my favorite movie(The Shawshank Redemption), and for being a chill guy in real life

BTW, Morgan Freeman’s favorite drink is a Guinness. Awesome.

is it weird three of these actors are in the Christopher Nolan Batman movies?

How to enjoy any mediocre summer movie.

1. Wear cargo shorts
2. Get 2 of your good friends together
3. Purchase a 30 rack of your most favorite beer your wallet will allow
4. Insert 3 beers into each cargo pocket and 2 into each normal pocket for a total of 10 beers per person.
5. Grab some popcorn and enter your typical summer action movie
6. As soon as the lights are dim and there's significant sound, start cracking beers.
7. Enjoy

Congrats you've just turned a 2 star movie into the most entertaining 2 hours of your entire week.

The New York Yankees will make the playoffs: GUARENTEED

Every year there is scepticism whether the new york yankees will make the playoffs with their 200+ million dollar payroll. However each year many sports writers are completeley WRONG.

In the past few years, what do acclaimed ESPN sportswriters Michael Wilbon, Jay Mariotti, and Skip Bayless have in common? They have all counted the Yankees out. And thats just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to doubting NY.

First off lets take a look at the current state of the 2008 Yankees:

3.5 games out of 1st place in the AL east behind the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

tied for 2.5 games out of the wildcard with the Twins behind the BoSox.

Are without Chin ming Wang, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui to name a few. These are big name players. These are the type of leaders needed to win championships, let alone games. The Yankees have lost their #1 starter but can still stay in the race.

This team is in the middle of the pack in the AL playoff race and have been counted out many times this season, but pinstripes will always prevail, and here is why.

Guess where the Yankees were at the 2007 all star break...

9.5 games out of first and 8 games out of the wild card. Did the 2007 Yankees make the playoffs? YES

in 2008, 20 games were played without Alex Rodgriguez. A-Rod is currently fourth among AL home run leaders with 21 only 3 behind the leader Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox who has 24. He has hit roughly 1 home run for every 14 at bats this season. Without his injury, A-Rod WOULD be the HR leader in the American League no doubt. Think of the home runs, let alone RBIs, let alone hits, let alone runs, he would've scored during that 20 game stretch. Also contemplate how much better the players hitting around him would've done with A-Rod in the lineup.

But that time is passed, and the Yankees are only 3.5 games out.

Robinson Cano was batting .246 pre all star break. Now batting .526 post all star break and is a career hitter .335 after the all star break. enough said.

Joe Girardi. See 2006 Marlins. Ahem manger of the year on lowest payroll with a predicted 100 loss season ahem

Johnny Damon, 4th best BA in the American league, just returned off the DL

Brett Gardner hasn't even come close to his potential. He is making an impact on the bases and in the field. Just wait till he plays up to what he is capable of.

The biggest question for the 2008 season was starting pitching. Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes haven't won anything for the Yankees this year.I don't need to get into stats but a converted Jaba (BTW a GREAT move by Hank Steinbrenner which was criticized by fans and media alike) has been excellent as well as Sidney Ponson, who the bombers got for basically peanuts. We don't even have Wang.

The LEAST favorite and most hated pitcher on the Yankee staff by fans is by far Kyle Farnsworth. He single handedly created rather than a WHIP stat, a Walk-HomeRuns-per inning pitched statistic (WHRIP). However in his last nine innings pitched he hasn't allowed a single hit. Who woulda thought?

Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer in baseball history, is having one of the strongest seasons of his career with only a 1.28 ERA, a .68 WHIP and is striking out more than a batter per inning.

The rest of the AL playoff race is just as unstable and has more problems than the Yankees. Young, inexperienced TB, an inconsistent Minnesota team. The only team in my opinion that has a definite playoff spot in the AL is the Angels. Even K-Rod has blown 4 saves for that team and hes still on pace to set the single season record.

I haven't even had to mention Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi, Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Bobby Abreu and many others to even prove my point.

The #1 Reason the Yankees will make the playoffs, Yankee Magic.

This is the final season for the house that Ruth built. Can the last game really not be played in the postseason? Can the last game played there not be in the World Series? I'll leave that one up to the baseball gods, but NEVER, EVER count out the greatest and most decorated franchise in the history of sports.

MLS All Star Game: WATCH IT!

America is ready for soccer. Everyone notices the increase in soccer coverage on TV and the large amount of kids sporting soccer jerseys around your local mall. However, there is still minimal support for Major League Soccer from the casual soccer fan. This fan loves to watch the World Cup, Euro Cup, and the Champions League, but is put off by the thought of watching American soccer and is ignorant to what they can get out of MLS.

They think MLS is garbage and refuse to watch it. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TEAM.

MLS is quickly becoming the strongest league in North America and is growing dramatically every year. Each season brings about a new team. In 2007 it was Toronto FC, in 2008 it was San Jose, in 2009 it will be Seattle, and in 2010 Philedelphia. 2 more teams will be added by 2012.

The MLS all star game is less than 2 days away with the MLS all stars set to face off against the English Premier League's West Ham United.

To prove my point on the quality of play and talent in MLS, here is the result of the past few all star games against foreign competition.

2003 MLS defeats CD Guadalajara 3-1 at the Home Depot Center in Carson California

2005 MLS defeats Fulham 4-1 at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus Ohio

2006 MLS defeats Chelsea 1-0 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois

2007 MLS defeats Celtic 2-0 Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado

Pretty good track record if you ask me.

Just to put it in perspective, Chelsea's payroll is at $270 million, 50 more than the New York Yankees. DC United, arguably the best team in MLS currently and historically, has a payroll a little over 2 million. talk about a big difference.

Stop criticizing MLS and American Soccer without experiencing it for urself. Believe me you'll be pleasantly surprised and extremely glad you did.

MY PREDCTION for 2008 MLS All Stars 3, West Ham 1.

The game airs at 7 Eastern on ESPN and Telefutura.
